Alphonse Capone - Capone's special ability, Rain of Fire, showers a target area with bullets damaging and suppressing anyone caught in the cross-fire.However, only in-range gangsters will follow her command, and if they use explosives, they can damage Stephanie and each other. As for Critical Role, the cast stumbled upon Wyrmwood’s products at a Gen Con long before there were live shows, and a new partnership was born. You know their name and the gorgeous gaming accessories they make, but do you know how it all got started? Wyrmwood and Geek & Sundry first joined forces in 2013 thanks to the vlogging and editorial work of Teri Litorco, Chris recalls. “The inlay work on our Dungeon Master tier can take a skilled craftsman a full day, just to cut the inlay by hand, and that’s before we get to actually building the tower.” Who is Wyrmwood? Bypassing that risks the final piece warping and becoming unusable. As a very temperamental exotic, it needs time to ‘season’ – about a month after it’s cut – before we are able to begin working it. “The process can range from hours, to days, to a week or more, depending on the wood and techniques being used. Wyrmwood makes every order by hand with an unrivaled attention to detail. “This allows us to produce all of these custom orders together in an efficient way, even though virtually no orders are going to be exactly the same,” Chris explains. “We can manage production efficiently, minimize our waste and guesswork, and offer backers the best prices and the best variety of options.” “We were still relatively unknown back then, and a lot of people never got the chance to back that campaign and get access to all of the custom options and fun extras,” Chris says. “Combine that with the fact that we had some new ideas, such as custom strap profiles, the ‘Mistress of Maps’ tier with Deven Rue’s cartography, and revisiting and updating the Dungeon Master Tier, all things that only really made sense within the context of a Kickstarter project.”Īlthough it might seem counter-intuitive, it’s also easier on Wyrmwood to take a large number of custom orders at once rather than a slow trickle through an online storefront. Instead of ordering a rare wood in small amounts at a time, once the campaign is complete they will have the information they need to send in one big request and fulfill a much larger number of personalized orders. The return to Kickstarter was inspired by the fans who missed out on the first crowdfunding campaigns, Wyrmwood’s Chris Gates tells Geek & Sundry. You can select every little detail of the tower, from the type of wood used, to the engraving, to the design of the box closure. After two successful crowdfunding campaigns, Wyrmwood is back on Kickstarter for the bespoke edition of their exquisitely crafted dice tower. ![]() The sound, the audio, ultimately the music, in its many electronic forms of delivery - analog, digital, two-channel, surround, HD, 3-D (yes, it’s in audio too) - that’s what brought us to Las Vegas. The windshield helps keep the blast off the rider, and it has two positions-but you need a T25 Torx key to move between them. The 390 Adventure is a compact motorcycle, so it sacrifices full freeway capability. ![]() Downshifting is the only option, and with it comes noticeable vibration. Should you hit windy areas head-on, or significant grades, the 373cc motor will start to struggle to maintain freeway speeds. Vibration is less than you would expect from a single, and the 390 is fully willing to cruise along at 70 mph with no encumbrances. As a lightweight touring motorcycle, the 390 Adventure is impressively competent. KTM puts the 2020 390 Adventure in the Travel category, so let’s look at that aspect first. Oh, and speaking of standing, the footpegs-with removable rubber inserts-are excellent platforms. Other than that, the KTM 390 Adventure does not get in the pilot’s way, and you feel like you dominate the motorcycle, rather than the other way around. Transitions between sitting and standing are occasionally interrupted by the stepped seat hitting the rider in the butt when trying to get back for traction. The seating position works great in all conditions, though the bars feel a tad low when standing-a purely personal preference. It’s wider than a dirt bike, but much narrower than larger adventure motorcycles. The seat height is a very manageable 33.6 inches, helping the 390 Adventure work well in the dirt, while providing an advantageous view of traffic and scenery on the pavement. With 26.5 degrees of rake, the motorcycle is stable in all situations, yet the handling is not remotely lethargic. It all works together to give the 390 Adventure good feel while keeping down the weight. Per KTM custom, the 390 has a steel trellis frame and subframe, along with a lattice swingarm. The six-speed transmission is matched to an assist-and-slipper clutch, and our test unit had KTM’s optional up/down quickshifter-an essential KTM PowerPart. That makes the delivery fully manageable on the dirt, as well as persistent on pavement. The power comes on extremely smoothly, and without any hits in the powerband. It’s a ride-by-wire short-stroke DOHC mill that loves to rev, with the redline coming at 10,000 rpm. Powering the 390 Adventure is the same muscular single used in the 390 Duke and RC 390. Yes, it is an ADV motorcycle rather than a dirt bike-no surprise. This is a motorcycle that excels on the street, yet is still capable on the dirt. Plus, the suspension travel is less than seven inches at each end, and the curb weight is 379 pounds. The 390 Adventure has diecast aluminum wheels in a 19-/17-inch pairing, shod with street-oriented Continental TKC 70 tires. Keep in mind that this is not an R model. Although the 2020 KTM 390 Adventure is off-road capable, its prowess remains road-focused, be it paved or dirt. Lend itself to interesting letterforms, and ideally a clear style (fun/fancy/bold/delicate).Ī word with an ascender and a descender gives you some good opportunities (like a yĪt the end of a word that can underline the word). Your assignment for this week is to draw a single word or short phrase by hand, inĪ way that makes it clear that it is customized. Lettering, but nothing is quite like true hand-lettering. OpenType fonts have so many ligature options that they can look pretty close to hand Hand-drawn lettering is unique from a “typeface” in that it hasĬustom forms that couldn’t result from just typing out letters on your keyboard. Typefaces with several widths are very helpful in this kind of challenge in allowing you to fill space with shorter words or cram a longer word in a smaller area.Ĭustom hand-drawn type is a tough skill to master, but one you only get better at One last tip: it is a good idea to work with fonts with multiple widths-Knockout being the most notorious, but many popular typefaces will have narrow/condensed/compressed or extended versions. There is a lot to think about with this assignment, and it is good to attack it in stages, so doing a rough layout before you start picking fonts can help you tackle one task at a time. I’d also recommend that you do a couple rough sketches of how you’d like to arrange your page to help figure out elements you’d like to emphasize before you start in on picking fonts. Either try to identify a word that might work with minimal ascenders and descenders, or try to come up with a creative way to fill those empty spaces with decorative elements, or custom adjustments to the ascenders/descenders that fill the space. ![]() There is nothing really wrong with going the all cap route, but it can be nice to break it up with lowercase. The easy way around it is to just use all caps (as the example on the left does). It’s nice to have the interest spread throughout, but you want a compelling entry point to encourage people to start at the beginning and read the whole thing.Īnother common challenge that comes up in this assignment is how to handle the empty space left by ascenders and descenders when using lower case. Also, try to create an interesting beginning to your layout. Try to use different hierarchical techniques (color, a contrasting typeface) throughout your composition, don’t just make the important things big every time. You’ll either run out of room or run out of energy toward the end. Don’t just start at the beginning in the upper left and go from there. You should start by picking out the most important parts of your text and setting them in a way that emphasizes them-either by size or color or boldness or typeface contrast (setting something in a typeface totally different than the type around it). I’d recommend you pay closest attention to hierarchy. ![]() The content of this collage is yours to choose, but if you have any trouble coming up with an idea I’ve got a few tried and true examples you could use. One of the main challenges is eliminating awkward gaps and white spaces, and getting all of the type to come together in an organized and readable way that looks effortless. Creating a composition like this is a bit like putting together a puzzle. ![]() Your assignment is to make a typography ‘collage’ that takes a short list, a phrase, a poem/lyric, or a narrative and arrange it into a single composition that considers the style and hierarchy of that content. Editing the film at the animatic stage prevents the animation of scenes that would be edited out of the film as traditional animation is a very expensive and time-consuming process, creating scenes that will eventually be edited out of the completed cartoon is strictly avoided. The storyboard and soundtrack are amended if necessary, and a new animatic may be created and reviewed with the director until the storyboard is perfected. This allows the animators and directors to work out any script and timing issues that may exist with the current storyboard. An animatic typically consists of pictures of the storyboard synchronized with the soundtrack. A completed cartoon soundtrack will feature music, sound effects, and dialogue performed by voice actors. Given the slow, methodical manner in which traditional animation is produced, it is almost always easier to synchronize animation to a pre-existing soundtrack than it is to synchronize a soundtrack to pre-existing animation. The storyboard artists will have regular meetings with the director, and may have to redraw or "re-board" a sequence many times before it meets final approval.īefore true animation begins, a preliminary soundtrack or "scratch track" is recorded, so that the animation may be more precisely synchronized to the soundtrack.
